This work was conceived as a response to Ann Hamilton’s {\em KAHNOP: To Tell a Story}, the newest addition to the UC San Diego Stuart Collection. KAHNOP, the Collection’s twenty-second public artwork, is an 800-foot stone walkway created in conjunction with the Mid-Coast Trolley extension. Designed by Hamilton, the piece weaves together over 1,300 lines of text written by UC San Diego–affiliated authors, exploring themes of land and water, micro- and macro-worlds, social justice, activism, technology, and mythology. Interwoven throughout the text is a recurring feminist narrative transcribed by Kumeyaay scholars, creating a layered field of language that offers pathways of meaning for those who traverse it.
